Halloween Special 1: Dead Space

Woot! We're closing in on the middle of October which means Halloween is around the corner. In honor of said holiday we are going to do a series of articles over scariest moments. I detailed this in the OMG STUFF article so let's do this.

I'm going to start us off with the scariest game of 2008: Dead Space. Now there are a million (hyperbole) moments from this game that are scary, but there is one (two) that will forever haunt my memories. The hunter.

You see, the hunter is an enemy that can regenerate body parts. In a game that centers around dismemberment this renders him invincible. You can slow him down for a little while by shooting off parts of his body or using stasis on him, but the only way to kill him is to lure him into a part of the environment that will freeze or burn him. Also he shows up twice. Here's a video of the first appearance of a hunter.

OK... That'll get your heart racing a little.

However, it's not the first encounter that made me freak out. It was the second one.

You see, when the second one shows up, you have to do everything in your power to slow it down. All you can do is shoot, run, move stuff in his path, and pray that you don't screw up. You also have to navigate and move a bunch of shelves while he chases you. It almost makes you feel like you're stuck in a small maze with something you can't kill hunting you... Oh wait, you are. When I finally killed him I realized I had been standing up the whole time practically shaking. Observe in the following 2 videos.

SHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHIT!

And...

Take that you bastard! That's what you get for making me wet myself!!!

I think I just broke my video posting record. Anyway, Dead Space probably deserves to be featured more than once for these specials, but I have other plans. I can't speak for Stephen, though, and Austin, our newbie, has his own very specific idea in mind for October. See ya soon!
