The Elitist's Favorite Video Game Moments: Innovations to JRPG Combat

I know this is really specific, but I have reason. Recently, on account have an industrial strength case of video game boredom, I picked up a random JRPG style game called Blue Dragon. I have never played it before, I love JRPG's. The game was drawn by the dude who draws up Dragon Ball Z (Akira Toriyama), and the writer is Hironobu Sakaguchi, who created Final Fantasy. So I bought it.

It's a good game, I am really enjoying it. One issue, the combat is completely unchanged from what you would expect from a turn based JRPG, and that makes me a sad... something.

Don't misunderstand, I am really really enjoying this game. I could be enjoying it more, however.

So back in the glory days of Squaresoft (when FF games were always good) JRPG's like Star Ocean Second Story, Xenogears and Legend of Dragoon were my video gaming life. I had grown really tired of the typical turn based Attack Attack Attack Attack of old, so I really gravitated to these three games because of the way they twisted to charm of JRPG's and made the combat something engaging and shit tons more fun.

These new styles really turned me away from the typical fighting and made my love for new combat techniques so much greater. FF has never been able to make a innovative combat tweak quite like these. Unique innovations lead to games like Tales of Symphonia, which was much more palatable for the greater population. Thank you smart people!
