Stupid Video Game Arguments That All of Us Make.

Whenever you are so immersed in a one industry for such long time, certain opinions become truth to you. You convince yourself it’s absolute, and if anyone tells you otherwise, you mount a motherf---ing crusade against their stupid n00b face.
I’m the same way, we all are. However there are some things we gamers like to argue about that don’t make any bloody sense, and continuing to argue about them simply makes us look like douche-teroids.
#1: Game Genre One is totally better than Game Genre Two!

Battle of the Ages.

We have all been in this argument before, and you know it. You and a friend/acquaintance bring up your favorite games.

1337TetrisFan: “Oh I totally love Tetris, it’s the best freaking game ever made!”

IHateThatDog1020: “No way man, Duck Hunt owns everyone’s face off, you don’t even know!”

Right because this makes sense.

1337TetrisFan: “Tetris has novel and exciting constant puzzle solving aspects, that keep it engaging as the game gets harder from level to level! The level is constantly changing so I have to keep thinking. It’s engaging and awesome.”

IHateThatDog1020: “What? Are you stupid? You have like, 5 seconds, as the brick falls all the way down. In Duck Hunt, You have to have faster reactions in order to hit a moving target. The spot your blocks need to go don’t ever move. Super easy mode dude.

1337TetrisFan: “Oh yea? Well I don’t have to deal with some stupid ass Dog every time I lose!”

IHateThatDog1020: “...That really cuts deep....”

So yea. This is obviously insane. Arguing between two different genres of gaming is like arguing that bicycles are better than cars because cars use fuel. They cannot be compared. They are not the same. The share a system, transportation, but they have different purposes.
Kids who yell and scream over whether or not Burnout Paradise is a better sandbox game than Grand Theft Auto because the crashes are better really deserve to be taken outback and have their ears pulled off. Maybe then, they will realize that they say stupid things.

#2 Old Games are Better Than New Games

Man, they just don’t make games like they used to. They were simple and fun, and I didn’t have to think too much, it’s all based on pure skill. Remember Pong? I tell ya. Those were the days. You could play by yourself against a computer, or against your friends. Only one at a time though.
You could play it at arcades... I think... I wasn’t really old enough. I’ve only actually played Pong once, but it’s really sad that they can’t make innovations like that anymore.

Way exaggerated but you get the point. Making the point that all old games in general are better than any newer games would be a lot like claiming that the wheel was the best car ever made.
Well... Most of the time...
Albeit, quality control has gone way down, so I suppose the argument has a degree of merit. Nowadays whenever a game is shitty when it is released you can just patch it. No problem right? I’m talking to you Splash Damage...
But when on your Commodore 64 were you every able to explore a realistic world, make your own decisions, or completely customize a million different character features and the world around the character? Nostalgia is great, but progress will always lead to better things

#3 Violent Video Games Make Children Violent

He secretly love this game.

I admit, children who are constantly rewarded for virtual violent behavior for years might become more aggressive. Depending upon whether or not the child is already aggressive or not has to be taken into consideration when decided on the magnitude of effects video games can have on a child. The thing that makes this a dumb argument is that its objective.
Psychologists can study and test and experiment for years, but the human equation is too random and isn’t tangible in any way as to provide a way of absolutely proving that non-violent peaceful minded children are driven to kill humans because they play video games like Mortal Kombat, or Rainbow Six. My ideas on this have not been a secret, but I realize it’s an argument that as no answer.
